A Day Trip To Manly For The Birthday Boy

Image
Happy birthday to my wonderful hubby! To celebrate, the MacGregors joined us on an adventure to Manly, a beach suburb of Sydney. We jumped on the ferry at Darling Harbor to Circular Quay and then a 30 min ride to Manly. The one and only adorable Myka Birthday boy! For lunch and beer tasting, we went to Manly's local brewery, because where else would you go for D's birthday? Answer: no where else. The food was great, the beers were pretty darn good (so I was told), the service? Terrible, horrible, the worst.  Friends that drink and travel together, stay together :) After our longer than anticipated lunch , we walked over to the beach and boardwalk-esk area to get some ice cream (because birthday), win dow shop and peruse the craft fair.

Bondi Beach Hike

Image
This weekend was forecasted to have beautiful weather, so what better way to take advantage to the high 60's than to hike along the ocean. We took the bus to a suburb of Sydney, Bondi, for the 6 km Coastal Walk between Bondi and Coogee. The walk starts at Sydney’s popular Bondi beach and passes through Tamarama, Bronte and Clovely beaches before reaching the Coogee beach. At one point during the walk, you go through a huge cemetery, Waverley Cemetery, with giant tombstones c Bondi beach Prettiest cemetery I've seen Aren't they the cutest?

Afternoon Adventures with Mom/Oma

Image
Last Tuesday was the official first day of work for both D and I. Since I am working remotely from the Bay Area, I need to stay on west coast time, meaning, I am up working at 3am. It's kinda brutal, BUT the silver lining is that I am done with work at 11am. So, after sharing an afternoon nap with Grayson, he, my mom, and I can go have an afternoon adventure before dinner! For our first adventure, we went to the fish market which is just down the road from our apartment. Its a big indoor market that has a bunch of fish stands with fish I have never seen before, and then a bunch of cute little stores. We picked up from delicious snapper fillets, some produce, wine and beer, and lamb sausages from the butcher. HUGE crustaceans!  Bagel shaped sushi, because why not On  Saturday, after swimming in the pool and nap time, we took the bus over to the Paddington neighborhood for the Paddington Market. The community based market supports local people passionate

Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh My!

Happy American Father's day! It is D's first, so we decided to go to something super family friendly, and spend the day at the Taronga Zoo. We walked over to Circular Quay to hop of the ferry across the harbor to the zoo. The zoo is build on a cliff that winds down the hill as you go along giving you fantastic views of the city, but also spreading the crowds out so you have time to explore the animals. It really is a beautiful facility with amazing trees and plants everywhere, most of the exhibits are open, and some even have free range! Like female kangaroos. We legit almost got run over by a kangaroo names Pip. True story. Nailed it! This kid. Our view on the ferry ride back to Darling Harbor

Chinatown Friday Night Street Market

Image
On Friday we walked over to Chinatown for the Friday night market. The main street was packed with people, while overhead was filled with twinkling lights from Vivid. Even though it is winter, it was been incredibly mild and warm, weather that I am happy to soak up as family back home are suffering through heat waves. me and my little goober We found AMAZING GF Chinese food  Across the street was Paddy Market, an indoor market of hodge podge knickknacks that we explored.

Vivid Sydney | Light, Music & Ideas Festival

Image
Vivid Sydney is a month long festival of light, music and ideas. During the festival, the city transforms into a light wonderland filled with sculptures, innovative light installations and grand-scale projections scattered around the city. While we have been here, we have had such a great time wandering the city and looking at all of the different art installations. Duane, my mom, Gray and I went on a boat tour around the harbor at night so we could see the lights. It was fantastic! \

Australia! We're Coming For You!

Image
The story may sound familiar; D's team started a new team and thus, we "must" go. Poor us. This time it will be 4 weeks in SYDNEY!!! We have never been there, so we are really excited to explore the city and add a new continent to our list! We packed up the family, D, G, Oma, and myself for a 15 hour flight (gross) across the Pacific. Goodbye California summer, helllllllo Australia winter! Gray did really well on the flight, was asleep before we even took off, slept for 6 hours, and then took 3 naps. We really cannot complain about that. This kid is a born traveler. Seriously, who looks this happy after a 15 hr flight? Not me. Our new home is located in a high-rise in the densely populated Pyrmont inner-city suburb. It reminds me of a small European city; walkable, very quaint, lots of cafes, tons of eateries, and beautiful buildings. Saturday, our first day, we situated ourselves and unpacked, then headed out into the city! We explored our neighborh
