A Passport is a Girl's Best Friend

Today's roadmap Goodbye Barcelona, today we start phase III of our Spanish adventure, exploring the Spanish Mediterranean coast. The Mediterranean Sea spreads its calm waters over 1,031 miles of Spanish coast, from the border with France all the way to the Gibraltar Strait. This vast distance allows for a wide variety of landscapes, towns and cultures, all of which are awe inspiring. Off we go! Tarragona Our first stop of the day was about an hour and a half south in the old Roman city of Tarragon. Before heading into the city, we stopped just outside of town to explore Pont del Diable or Les Ferreres Aqueduct, an old roman aqueduct you can hike on/around. Not going to lie, it is pretty cool walking on something that dates back to somewhere around 27 BC. We then set out to the city with the quest for food and a view. Friday morning D and I work up and meandered over to Museu d'Història de Barcelona over in Plaça del Rei. The museum focuses on conserving and researching the historical heritage of the city of Barcelona, from its origins in Roman times until the present day. As you go through the museum, you descend into the lower depths of the city to see an archaeological site displaying remains of the ancient Roman city.  After, we walked along the harbor down to the La Barceloneta district and the beaches along the Mediterranean Sea. We flew into Barcelona from Zurich Friday night and made it to our apartment just in time to grab dinner at a normal Spanish hour (this means 10pm) then fall asleep. We stumbled upon a (meaning you throw a rock and hit 3) a tapas bar, which was perfect for our first meal here. Home for 9 days My first sangria of the trip, nom nom Saturday we kept with tradition and went on a free walking tour to explore the city. It was a ridiculously beautiful day out; the sun was shinning, highs of 70 degrees and not a cloud in sight! The founding of Barcelona is the subject of two different legends. The first attributes the founding of the city to the mythological Hercules. The second legend is based on the founding of the city directly to the historical Carthaginian Hamilcar Barca, father of Hannibal.
